COMING UP NEXT: MORE UNKNOWN

I'm still dwelling on this quote:

You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith, and hope.” - Thomas Merton.

NOW AND THEN

How can this thought help even with future moments that might be throwing you into an anxiety loop? Sometimes the unknown makes it difficult to be in the present moment. It can be helpful to meet the concern head on, in order to create peace that flows from this moment into what lies ahead.

IT'S A DEEP WELL

Lou Tice is one of my early mentors from back in my real estate days. He taught a process of “flick back, flick up,” to deal with the worry and trepidation of the unknown future. In this way you draw from the deep well of your own experience to garner strength and courage to face tomorrow.

FLICK BACK

Breathe in. Breathe out. Think back over the last few months. Remember the high’s and low’s inside of this weird time we’ve all been experiencing. Journal about it if you like. Notice especially how brave you have been confronting the all of the unknowns. See again the faith that has held you up inside of the constant pivoting that has been required of you. Observe the hope that has kept you putting one foot in front of the other.

Of course you haven’t been perfect. Like I always say when I make a mistake, “I promise to be human.” You are human yet you have managed to embrace this crazy time with courage, faith and hope and they have sustained you through it.

FLICK UP

Imagine in full color the upcoming challenging event that is worrying you and bring that courage, faith and hope into the situation. Let it play out in your head with you bravely meeting each moment, full of conviction, aiming at moving through the event with ease.

YOUR BRAIN ON COURAGE FAITH AND HOPE

Creating neural pathways for the future that include you showing up in the way you desire will bolster your courage, faith and hope for all your moments.

No, you don’t need to know exactly what is happening, but with presence, courage, faith and hope, the UNKNOWN isn't so scary.
