THE UNKNOWN
THE UNKNOWN
This quote has been part of my email signature literally for years:
“You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith, and hope.” - Thomas Merton.
With all of the unknowns, it seems to me that now is the time to take a moment and notice how you are doing this very thing. Recognizing the possibilities and challenges that this one, singular moment, right now is offering.
Keep it simple.
Our mind often complicates things, grabbing fleeting thoughts, kneading them into anxious tragedies like stage productions playing out over and over in our brain, so I’ll say it again, keep it simple. Unless you are presently trying to outrun a bear, this single moment is simple.
Breathe in.
Notice any tension in the body. Breathe out. Breathe in, notice your thoughts with letting them carry you away. Breathe out, all is well in this one present moment. What are the possibilities and challenges here, now?
Allow the possibilities to open up. Allow the challenges to present themselves. Wrap them in your courage, faith and hope in the moment.
You’ve got this. One moment at a time.
Inside you lies an abundance of courage, faith and hope. Don’t believe me? Think back to the last time you were really brave. Full of faith. Completely hopeful. Reinforce it by journaling about it if you like. If you can’t think of anything, it’s ok, find a kind and compassionate friend to remind you of these times.
