Message from the Universe: You are not behind
Happy New Year!
2020 is here. If you haven't planned for a new you, made a list of resolutions or committed to the latest rigorous fitness plan as yet, I am here to tell you, it is O.K.
It is not only O.K., it is perfectly fine. None of these things hinge on the clock or the calendar. There is no need to stress out about not having a 2020 goals list or the perfect vision for the new year. You are not behind.
As a matter of fact, you, my dear reader, are likely ahead. You already have an important piece of the New Years puzzle. For any desired change to be effective, mindfulness is an essential state to guide YOUR decisions and to help you sense what YOU truly need. (Hint, it's not a Peloton, no matter how much ((hilarious)) attention those ads have garnered.)
It is easy to be swept into making a bunch of mindless resolutions, or pushed and pulled into the latest food or exercise craze. When we start with mindfulness, we can more readily sense what resonates with us and leave the rest out.
As I say in yoga classes, "when you are ready," to explore any shifts that feel are right to you, for this year, this day, this moment, stay grounded in who YOU are, and use your senses, all of them, to decide what needs to go, what is worth exploring more deeply, and what is perfect to adopt into your life as a part of you.
Practice: Start by dropping into your breath, feeling the sensations in the body without judgement. Then drop a question into your heart, like, "How do I want to feel?" or, "What do I need to add to my life?" or, "What do I need to leave behind?" and then patiently listening for the answers. Journaling is a great way to truly be present to the messages of your heart.
